Visit Japan Web – What To Expect At The Airport
Let me take you on a journey through my arrival at Kansai Airport in Japan, where I underwent the rigorous quarantine, immigration, and customs procedures. As I stepped off the plane, I couldn't help but feel a mix of anticipation and apprehension as I embarked on this new adventure. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that the procedures were not only efficient, but also seamless and hassle-free.
Disembark
As the plane begins to taxi towards the airport terminal, prepare yourself to connect to the airport WIFI, and don't forget to assist any elderly or children traveling with you.
After disembarking from the plane, take a moment to connect to the airport WIFI, and then access the Visit Japan Web. From there, navigate to the “preparation for quarantine” section and select the “Quarantine procedure (Fast Track)” option. This will take you to the “blue screen”.
As you make your way towards the quarantine checkpoint, keep an eye out for airport staff holding signs instructing you to open the Visit Japan Web and have the “blue screen” ready to show.
Quarantine Checkpoint 1
Upon reaching the quarantine checkpoint, simply display your Visit Japan Web "blue screen" to one of the airport staff members.
At this point, passengers will be directed and separated into two groups: those who have the "blue screen" displayed on their Visit Japan Web app, and those who do not.
The staff will then assist and guide passengers who require help with the Visit Japan Web app or any necessary paper documents.
Immigration Checkpoint 2
Once you have successfully passed through the quarantine checkpoint, proceed to the immigration checkpoint.
While queuing up, make sure to have your passport ready and open the Visit Japan Web app to the “preparation for immigration clearance” section. From there, select the “Display QR code” option, which will bring up the "immigration QR code" with a yellow bar at the top. Ensure that the name displayed on the QR code matches your own, especially if you are traveling with family members.
When it's your turn, hand over your passport and hold up your phone with the QR code displayed on the Visit Japan Web app, and scan it on a small scanner located on the counter.
Once that's done, simply wait for the immigration officer to clear your entry.
Customs Declaration Checkpoint 3
Once you have cleared the immigration checkpoint, proceed to the baggage claim area to collect your luggage.
The next checkpoint is the customs declaration, which is located right beside the baggage claim area. An airport staff member will guide you to the electronic declaration terminal station after you have collected your luggage.
While queuing up, make sure to have your next QR code ready. Open the Visit Japan Web app and navigate to the “preparation for customs declaration” section, then select the “Display QR code” option. Alternatively, if your phone screen is still displaying the previous "immigration QR code" screen, simply select the "customs declaration QR code" option located below your name. This will bring up the "Customs Declaration QR code" with a light blue bar at the top. Ensure that the name displayed on the QR code matches your own, especially if you are traveling with family members.
At the electronic declaration terminal station, follow the instructions displayed on the screen and scan your final QR code on the machine. After registering at the station, proceed to the electronic gate. While queuing up, if you are still wearing a mask, remove it so that the electronic gate machine can scan your face and open the gate for you to pass through.
Upon passing through the electronic gate, you will arrive at the arrival hall, marking your official welcome to Japan.
In Summary
At the first quarantine checkpoint, you are required to present the quarantine blue screen on your Visit Japan Web app. At the second checkpoint for immigration clearance, you need to display the immigration QR code. Finally, at the third checkpoint for customs declaration, you must show the customs declaration QR code.
